Over-Coming Over-Achieving

Hi. I’m Tracey, and I’m a somewhat over-achiever, or a recovering perfectionist. I’m not entirely sure which, but a combination of the two seems to fit the bill.

I tend to try to get a lot done any given day. I seem to have a belief that getting a ton done any given day should be the norm. Consequently, I plan far more to do in a day that can possibly be accomplished by even the most superhuman among us. And by doing this, I inadvertently set myself up for failure. A lot.

Sounding familiar to anyone?

The good news is that there is a solution!

If you’ve been following along in my last few emails, you probably know that we’ve been rolling out a completely new way of working with clients. We’re calling it Good Guardian Planning Workshops. It’s a whole new way of working with our clients. A way of helping them get their planning done that doesn’t feel anything like they thought it would to work with a lawyer.

And as a true over-achiever, I realized I should share this new-found way of working with other estate planning attorneys. With that, Good Guardian was born. It’s a new entrepreneurial venture reaching estate planning attorneys across the country, and shifting the industry.

But I digress. Like I said, I tend to plan to do more any given day than is probably possible to accomplish in a week. The problem is that I’m completely unaware that it’s not possible until I get into the middle of it and realize that it’s never going to happen.

And my habit has always been to beat myself up. To consider it a personal failure that I couldn’t get everything done. It was a huge energy suck and a major life buzz-kill.

I’m a long-time believer in having a coach. Each and every one of us can benefit from reaching out for help when we see we have a blind spot. And this was mine.
