Have you ever needed to travel to a meeting someplace that you’ve never been and just the thought of the drive itself gets you all twisted up inside?
When I go someplace for the first time, I do what a lot of us do:
- Rearrange my schedule to fit the appointment into my life.
- Confirm the address.
- Double check the directions.
- Take a peek at Google Street View to know I’m not walking into the wrong building.
- Turn down the radio in the car to help me navigate.
- Say a prayer to the parking angels.
- Make sure I’ve got plenty of hand sanitizer in my purse so I can ward off germs.
- Leave way too early in case there is traffic, no parking, or if I can’t find the location.
- Double check I’ve got my cell phone and their phone number – just in case!
- Allow extra time to complete any intake paperwork – and make sure the receptionist has enough information to make sure I’m in the right place.
It gets exhausting fast!
And before you know it, your 60-minute appointment can easily become a 90- or 120-minute ordeal from the time you leave your front door to the time you’re home again.
And don’t even get me started on traffic!
There’s got to be a better way…
And there is! Meeting virtually through the use virtual conference rooms (also known as free secure web meeting applications), we can meet face-to-face without travel. And no, it’s not cold and impersonal! We can meet, confidentially, see and hear each other, share documents, and more. You can use any computer with a camera and microphone, or even a smartphone. And most virtual conferencing systems allow you to phone in – in case you’re caught without anything but a telephone.
In some cases, meeting with your attorney virtually is even more of a personal relationship because it feels like we’re meeting wherever you’re at – even from the comfort of your own home.
Meeting virtually gives me more flexibility to meet with you during the schedule that works for you. (Remember what I said about traffic and parking!) You don’t need to find the extra time to come to the office.
And don’t forget germs! Meeting virtually means that you’re not going to catch the flu in the name of protecting yourself and your family. Plus, meeting virtually is ideal if you have a compromised immune system, an unusual schedule, mobility or travel challenges, or need to secure childcare.
